Blue Cave Tour

This is the whole Boka in one morning or afternoon: three hours by speedboat from the Port of Kotor (in front of the Old Town) to the open Adriatic and back, past everything the bay is famous for — and it ends with the best swim in Montenegro, inside the glowing Blue Cave.

The route reads like a highlight reel. First the island church of Our Lady of the Rocks, where you choose your stop: step onto the island itself, or go ashore in Perast, the little Baroque town facing it. Then through the Verige strait — the narrowest point of the bay — and across the Bay of Tivat to a hidden Cold-War submarine tunnel carved straight into the cliffs, which we enter by boat. Past the island fortress of Mamula, and on to the cave.

At the Blue Cave the boat stops right at the entrance. You jump into the sea, swim in, and the water around you turns an electric, glowing blue — you have a good 25 to 30 minutes to swim, float and take it all in before the ride home.

The route, stop by stop

    Our Lady of the Rocks — or Perast, your choice20 min ashore

    We cruise the calm inner bay to the famous man-made island. Here the group picks one of two stops: walk onto Our Lady of the Rocks and visit its church, or step ashore in Perast for a stroll along the Baroque waterfront.

    Verige strait & the Bay of TivatCruise

    Full speed through the narrowest passage of the Boka, where the mountains close in to just 340 metres, then out across the wide-open Bay of Tivat.

    Submarine tunnel10 min inside

    A Cold-War relic hidden in the cliffs: tunnels dug for the Yugoslav navy to hide its submarines. We slip inside one by boat — dark, echoing and unforgettable.

    Mamula fortressPhoto pass

    At the very entrance of the bay we pass the round island fortress of Mamula, guarding the open Adriatic since 1853. Cameras ready.

    The Blue Cave25–30 min swim

    The finale. The boat stops in front of the cave, you jump into the sea and swim in — and the sunlight turns the whole grotto electric blue. Swim, float, glow.

Good to know

  • Departure is from the Port of Kotor (in front of the Old Town) — pick-up from other spots around the bay is possible on request.
  • Stepping onto Our Lady of the Rocks island costs 5 € per person, paid on the island. Entering the church is optional — the fee is just for going ashore. If the group chooses Perast instead, there is no fee.
  • The Blue Cave is entered by swimming from the boat. Life jackets are available — and if you would rather stay dry, the view from the entrance is still worth the trip.
  • If the sea is too rough for the cave, we reschedule or cancel free of charge — you never pay in advance.
